Sui Stablecoin Supply Nears Half Billion as Network Activity Surges
Sui's stablecoin supply has been steadily increasing and is now approaching $500 million. The network processed more than $65 billion in fee-free stablecoin transfers since June 10, following a protocol upgrade that removed the need for users to hold SUI to move certain stablecoins across the network.
The stablecoin balance reached approximately $1.6 billion in May 2025 before declining sharply and has remained relatively steady at around $492 million since then. The network's cumulative stablecoin transaction volume has exceeded $2.27 trillion since early 2024, covering roughly 16 billion transactions.
Mysten Labs' co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun described the fee reduction as a way to remove unnecessary friction from stablecoin payments. This move could make blockchain-based settlement more competitive for applications that require frequent transfers.
