Sui's Ambitious Four-Year Plan to Process Every Digital Payment

Mysten Labs' co-founder Evan Cheng predicts that Sui will process all digital payments within four years, and recent data is backing up his claim. Since June 10, Sui has moved more than $65 billion in gasless stablecoin transfers, with a cumulative volume of over $2.27 trillion since early 2024.

The network's Hashi testnet, launched on July 22, allows bitcoin to collateralize decentralized finance loans without wrapping it into a synthetic token. This feature is part of the bridge built by Mysten Labs and the Sui Foundation with over two dozen participating institutions.

Cheng pitches Sui as settlement plumbing for stablecoins, remittances, and eventually agentic commerce between AI systems. However, skeptics point out that Sui's market capitalization remains a small fraction of the payment volume Cheng is describing.
