Swan Bitcoin Unveils Multi-Institutional Custody Model for Enhanced Security
Swan Bitcoin is developing a new custody product called Swan Trinity, expected to launch by Q4 2026. This innovative approach aims to eliminate single points of failure and reduce theft risk in cryptocurrency storage.
The Swan Trinity model splits a client's Bitcoin keys across three separate institutions. No client-held keys will be used, instead, the keys will be distributed among Swan, BitGo, and a third unnamed UK-based company. This multi-institutional custody model provides enhanced security, especially in light of recent hardware wallet hacks.
The approach contrasts with traditional multisig custody methods, where clients hold keys. By decentralizing key control, Swan Trinity seeks to reduce the risk of theft and loss associated with single-point failures.
