Sweden Demands $56 Million in Back Taxes from Six Crypto Mining Firms
Sweden's tax authority is cracking down on six cryptocurrency mining companies operating in the northern city of Boden, demanding $56.4 million in back taxes.
The tax agency, Skatteverket, claims that these companies structured their operations to conceal their true nature as crypto miners and secure unwarranted tax benefits.
Patrik Lillqvist, head of intelligence at Skatteverket, stated that the companies' arrangements were designed to obscure their mining activities and obtain tax advantages they did not qualify for.
The six Boden-based firms account for the bulk of the latest tax adjustments imposed on crypto businesses in Sweden, with nine companies across the country receiving tax adjustments totaling over half a billion kronor from 2024 to 2026.
