Swiss Bitcoin Pay Halts Operations After Suspected Data Breach
Swiss Bitcoin Pay, a non-custodial bitcoin payment processor, has temporarily shut down its servers after a data breach on Monday. The company's internal systems were likely accessed by a malicious user.
The Neuchâtel, Switzerland-based firm believes the hacker may have obtained customer email addresses, bitcoin addresses, and IBANs, as well as transaction history and hashed passwords. However, Swiss Bitcoin Pay assures users that their funds are safe, and any amounts owed to them will be fully returned.
This incident comes amidst a string of data breaches hitting the bitcoin and fintech sectors. Recent incidents include Revolut's disclosure of customer passports and driver's licenses being handed over to unauthorized parties, as well as Trezor's warning about phishing attacks targeting customers due to a third-party marketing platform breach.
