Swiss Franc Gains Despite SNB Warnings and Hawkish Fed Tone

The Swiss Franc has been gaining despite warnings from the SNB that they may intervene to limit its upside. The USD/CHF pair is trading around 0.8090, down slightly from yesterday's modest gains.

The US Dollar weakened following comments from Goldman Sachs chief economist Jan Hatzius, who reiterated his expectation that the Federal Reserve will hold interest rates steady in September.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh delivered a hawkish tone at Jackson Hole, with a FXS Speechtracker score of 7.4/10, above the historical average. This suggests heightened concern about price stability and a bias towards further tightening or a prolonged restrictive stance.

The Swiss National Bank has held its key policy rate at 0% and is projected to maintain this level through 2027. The SNB has repeatedly stated its readiness to intervene in foreign exchange markets to limit excessive Swiss Franc appreciation.
