Swiss Stablecoin Sandbox Expands with New Partners
Nine Swiss companies have entered the testing phase of CHFD, a Swiss franc-based stablecoin, in an initiative to develop programmable payments and digital asset settlement. This sandbox, launched in April, aims to explore the potential benefits of stablecoins for online marketplaces, event ticket sales, and public payments.
The addition of SIX, a financial market operator, and TWINT, a payment app, brings the total number of participants to numerous banks already involved in the project. The pilot will examine whether programmable payments can reduce fraud on online marketplaces, improve access to event tickets, and make public payments more efficient.
The sandbox tests are focused on creating a stablecoin that is pegged to the Swiss franc, which would enable faster and cheaper cross-border transactions. By exploring the use of CHFD in different scenarios, the participants hope to gain insights into its potential applications and limitations.
