Switchboard Oracle Compromised: Blockchains Go Dark Amid Price Feed Crisis
On August 29, Switchboard Oracle halted its price feeds on four blockchains: Sui, Aptos, IOTA, and Movement.
The decision was made after a compromised oracle key was detected, which could have been used to manipulate the price feed for IOTA. The attacker allegedly set the token's price to $10 million, minting around 4.94 million VUSD through the CDP protocol Virtue.
As a result, 45 users were directly liquidated, and exchange addresses were frozen to prevent further damage.
The incident highlights the importance of secure oracle networks in decentralized applications. If an attacker can compromise an oracle key, they can manipulate the price feed, leading to incorrect calculations and potentially catastrophic consequences for users.
