Symbiosis Bitcoin Bridge Exploited by Hacker Who Minted Billions
The Symbiosis bitcoin bridge was exploited by a hacker who managed to mint billions of unbacked syBTC, but only cashed out around $336,000 worth of unsubsidized assets.
The attack occurred on September 11, 2026, and the hacker used the synthetic BTC to sell around $336,000 in real wrapped bitcoin (WBTC) on Ethereum's Uni V4 exchange.
Symbiosis has recovered approximately 15 BTC from the attacker and put a 20% bounty on the table for information leading to recovery. The deadline for the bounty is September 13, 2026.
This incident follows similar hacks involving bitcoin-backed tokens in recent weeks, including the Liquid Network's L-BTC and Nomic's nBTC.
