Symbiosis Bitcoin Bridge Hacked for $336,000
Symbiosis's Bitcoin Bridge suffered an exploit on September 11, 2026, resulting in the creation of approximately 46.1 billion unbacked synthetic Bitcoin tokens (syBTC). The attacker managed to liquidate only around 4.39 wrapped BTC for roughly $336,000 before the breach was detected.
Symbiosis recovered about 15 BTC (worth $1.15 million) and suspended Bitcoin routing while keeping other services operational. They offered the attacker a white-hat bounty of 20% of stolen funds, with a deadline of September 13, and plan compensation for affected liquidity providers.
This is the third recent Bitcoin bridge exploit, following similar attacks on Liquid Network and Nomis.
