Symbiosis Recovered from Security Breach with Limited Losses
Symbiosis, a protocol that enables cross-chain transactions, has suffered a major security breach. The attack allowed an attacker to mint unbacked syBTC tokens worth $46.1 billion in notional value.
However, the actual loss was significantly lower at around $336,000 as the attacker only converted 4.39 WBTC into BTC.
Symbiosis responded quickly by halting BTC routing and recovering 15 BTC, which were then secured in a multisig wallet to prevent further losses.
The protocol has also offered the attacker a 20% bounty on returned funds by September 13, 2026, as an incentive to return the stolen assets. Additionally, Symbiosis is working on compensating affected liquidity providers.
