Symbiosis Recovers Stolen BTC, Offers Bounty Amid Ongoing Bridge Hack Investigation
Cross-chain liquidity protocol Symbiosis has made significant progress in recovering from a recent bridge hack. The protocol announced it had recovered 15 Bitcoin (BTC) worth approximately $1.1 million, which was stolen during the hack that affected its native Bitcoin bridge.
The exploit occurred on Friday and resulted in the attacker minting 46.1 billion unbacked tokens from Symbiosis' Bitcoin bridge. However, the attacker managed to realize only 4.3 Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), worth $336,000, according to blockchain security company Blockaid.
Symbiosis has clarified that all routes remain operational despite the hack and that the recovered BTC was deposited into a team-controlled multi-sig wallet. The protocol is now offering a 20% bounty to anyone who can provide information leading to asset recovery.
In related news, Symbiosis will soon reveal a compensation framework for affected liquidity providers. The protocol initially offered a 20% white-hat bounty to the attacker, but the deadline expired on Sunday.
