Symbiosis Suffers $336K Exploit After 46B Fake Tokens Minted on Bitcoin Bridge
Symbiosis, a cross-chain infrastructure provider, suffered a security breach on September 11, 2026. The attack targeted its Bitcoin bridge, allowing an unauthorized party to exploit a vulnerability in the BridgeV2 smart contract.
The perpetrator generated approximately 46.1 billion illegitimate synthetic bitcoin tokens (syBTC), exceeding 2,000 times Bitcoin's entire circulating supply. These fabricated tokens were transferred to a newly created wallet address.
Despite the enormous quantity of counterfeit tokens minted, the attacker faced significant liquidity constraints and was only able to exchange about 4.39 wrapped bitcoin via Uniswap on the Ethereum network, ultimately extracting approximately $336,000 in profits.
