T. Rowe Price Sees Meme Coins as Investible Assets
T. Rowe Price, the global asset manager overseeing $1.9 trillion in assets, has included Dogecoin (DOGE) in its actively managed multi-token spot cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF), TKNZ. According to Blue Macellari, head of digital assets at T. Rowe Price, the decision is not about chasing internet fads but reflects a judgment that vetted meme coins can hold investment value.
The T. Rowe Price Active Crypto ETF (TKNZ) allows the manager to adjust holdings based on market conditions, research, and risk management. Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) currently account for roughly 60% of the total portfolio, while Dogecoin has a weighting of 1.26%. Macellari emphasized that meme coin trading serves as a practical stress test for evaluating blockchain network performance.
T. Rowe Price expects the crypto ETF market to become increasingly segmented and specialized going forward, with potential large-cap, small-cap, and sector-focused funds emerging once generic listing standards are established by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The firm's strategy is focused on delivering active portfolio management capabilities in a crypto market where leadership shifts rapidly.
