Take-Two Cracks Down on GTA 6 Leaks Amid Cryptocurrency Monetization Attempts
Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive is cracking down on leaks surrounding its upcoming game Grand Theft Auto 6. The latest leak occurred in mid-August, when CyberLeek started publishing fresh gameplay footage online. This comes more than two years after Rockstar ordered developers back to the office full-time, citing productivity and security concerns.
The company has launched a major legal effort to identify whoever is behind the CyberLeek persona. Take-Two Interactive is seeking Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) subpoenas for records from tech giants Microsoft and Discord. The publisher wants internal business records to help identify the person or people allegedly operating behind CyberLeek.
CyberLeek has attempted to monetise the attention surrounding the leaks through cryptocurrency, soliciting donations while releasing footage. However, there is no evidence that the cryptocurrency activity itself amounts to fraud. Despite Take-Two's efforts, small snippets of leaked footage have continued to circulate across social media and online platforms.
