Take-Two's GTA VI Leak Exposed as Cryptocurrency Marketing Ploy
Take-Two Interactive's market value took a $2.83 billion hit between Tuesday and Thursday after a user named CyberLeek published what appeared to be live gameplay footage from Grand Theft Auto VI.
The reaction was intense, with shares testing levels near their 200-day moving average of €197.03 and the stock finishing the week roughly 10 percent below its July record high of €231.40.
But here's where the story gets interesting: media reports now suggest that the leak wasn't a genuine security breach at all, but rather a coordinated marketing scheme designed to promote a cryptocurrency token.
Take-Two isn't taking chances, however, and has filed formal subpoenas in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York targeting Microsoft and Discord, seeking internal documents and records that could help identify those responsible for publishing unauthorized audiovisual material from the forthcoming title.
