Tastytrade Skips Sports Bets in New Prediction Market Launch
Options brokerage tastytrade has entered the prediction markets business, but its platform is focused on financial derivatives and cryptocurrency rather than sports event contracts. The firm's 'Prediction Markets' offering is backed by Apex Fintech Solutions and marks the first time a brokerage firm has used Apex's Futures Clearing Merchant infrastructure for this kind of product.
The platform is overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which governs prediction markets in the United States. Tastytrade described its contracts as resolving to simple yes-or-no outcomes with pricing built around real-time probabilities, targeting 'active traders' rather than casual bettors.
Customers can trade the yes/no contracts directly through tastytrade's existing platform, though the positions themselves are held in segregated accounts. The company's contract lineup leans heavily into instruments its existing trader base already follows, including equity indexes, Treasury yields, and economic releases such as the Consumer Price Index and nonfarm payrolls.
