Tectonic Hacker Sends Record-Breaking $6.65M to Tornado Cash Amidst Price-Manipulation Attacks

The Tectonic attacker has sent approximately $6.65 million in Ethereum to the mixer Tornado Cash, marking a significant move in the aftermath of the record-breaking hack.

According to PeckShield, the hacker's address associated with the Tectonic hack transferred 2,658.9 ETH into Tornado Cash on September 3. This transaction is part of the unrecovered funds that Cronos validators could not roll back after the incident on August 30.

The rollback erased nearly all balances linked to the attacker on Cronos but failed to reverse funds already sent to Ethereum. Approximately $74 million in stolen funds can be tracked through three addresses, with $60 million in one Cronos wallet and $6 million in Ethereum.

Price-manipulation attacks have reached an all-time high in 2026, with 32 recorded so far, according to TRM Labs. The Tectonic hack highlights the risk of targeting thinly traded collateral with meaningful borrowing power, leading to a rapid spread of damage from an illiquid token to a lending protocol and eventually into the cross-chain laundering ecosystem.
