Tenev: Tokenization Holds Key to Modernizing US Finance
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev is pushing for tokenization as the best way to modernize the US financial system. In a recent post, he emphasized that one major obstacle to this goal is the lack of access to tokenized stocks in the US. He noted that other jurisdictions are already embracing blockchain-based systems.
Tenev warned that if regulators fail to update existing rules to accommodate tokenization, the US risks falling behind. He pointed out that market participants are shifting towards blockchain-based financial systems, but this requires regulatory updates without weakening investor protections.
The absence of US access to tokenized stocks is a major gap in Robinhood's tokenization push. The company ranks sixth among platforms with $32.2 million across 191 assets. Tokenized stocks held $2.4 billion in distributed value as of August 19, up 6.6% over 30 days.
