Term Finance Hit for $8.5M in Governance Token Exploit
Term Finance, an Ethereum-based fixed-rate lending platform, has suffered an $8.5 million loss following a governance exploit targeting its Meta Vaults.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2026, and resulted in the theft of approximately 2,843 ETH (valued at around $6.87 million) and 1.68 million USDC, which was subsequently converted to DAI tokens.
The attacker allegedly acquired inexpensive governance tokens to gain majority voting power over the vaults, exploiting a vulnerability in the custom governance layer implemented by Term Finance using the Yearn V3 framework.
Term Labs has permanently disabled all Meta Vaults and revoked DAO governance privileges to prevent any additional deposits. The core lending platform remains secure, with withdrawal functionality still operational.
