Terra Classic's Community-Driven Survival
Terra Classic (LUNC), the blockchain left behind after the TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin lost its dollar peg in May 2022, has defied expectations and remained operational thanks to a community of validators and holders.
The group implemented an on-chain burn tax, which automatically destroys a portion of LUNC tokens with every transaction. This mechanism, combined with voluntary exchange burns led by Binance, has removed over 130 billion tokens from circulation since 2022.
Despite the massive supply reduction, the impact on price is limited due to the scale of the original supply, which sits at roughly 6.46 trillion tokens, with about 5.53 trillion in active circulation as of late July 2026.
