Tether Adds 14 Tonnes Gold, Expands Reserves to Record $18.8 Billion
Tether, a prominent stablecoin issuer, has significantly bolstered its gold reserves. According to recent data, Tether acquired 14 tonnes of gold in Q2 2026, bringing its total holdings to 146 tonnes worth $18.8 billion. This acquisition marks the largest known private holding of gold outside government reserves.
This substantial purchase is part of a broader strategy to diversify and strengthen Tether's assets for long-term resilience. Paolo Ardoino emphasizes the importance of scarce assets like Bitcoin and gold in navigating uncertain markets.
Tether's gold holdings have doubled since Q1 2025, with a nearly threefold increase in value. It ranks among the top gold-acquiring nations in the first half of 2026, alongside Poland, Uzbekistan, China, and Kazakhstan.
