Tether Alloy Gold-Backed Reserves Hit $210M Milestone
Tether's Alloy gold-backed reserves have surpassed $210 million, according to the company's transparency materials. This milestone is significant as it shows that users are interested in synthetic dollar products backed by tokenized gold.
Alloy uses a different structure than Tether's main stablecoin, USDT. While USDT is fiat-backed, Alloy uses overcollateralized Tether Gold as collateral for minting a synthetic dollar asset called aUSDT. This allows users to access dollar-like liquidity while maintaining exposure to gold-backed assets.
The growth of Alloy's reserves indicates that there is demand for alternative stablecoin products beyond simple fiat-backed USDT. This trend aligns with the broader market theme of crypto users seeking more varied collateral structures, such as tokenized Treasuries and commodity-backed tokens.
