Tether-Backed Oobit Lets AI Agents Spend USDT via Visa Cards
Stablecoin issuer Tether has backed Oobit's launch of virtual cards that enable AI agents to make online purchases in USDT, eliminating the need for human involvement at the point of transaction.
The Agent Cards are funded directly from Tether's treasury and do not require fiat on-ramps or currency conversions when topping up balances and executing purchases.
Oobit said the cards launched to a founding group of businesses on Thursday and will expand to additional companies by June 30, subject to passing a Know Your Business compliance check.
The current rollout is limited to vetted business customers, with spend limits and merchant restrictions enforced at the transaction layer to keep agents operating within their authorized scope.
According to Oobit, the Agent Cards are compatible with AI agent frameworks from OpenAI, Claude, AutoGen, and LangChain, enabling potential use cases such as renewing software-as-a-service subscriptions and topping up advertising budgets autonomously.
