Tether Cleared First Full Audit with $6.81B Reserve Cushion Verified
Tether, the issuer of USDT, has finally cleared its first full audit after eight years. The review was conducted by KPMG U.S. and covered Tether International's financial statements for the year that ended December 31, 2025.
The auditors verified that the company's reserves exceeded liabilities by $6.81 billion at the end of 2025, a significant cushion against potential redemptions. However, this buffer has thinned to $4.11 billion by June 30, due to weaker gold and Bitcoin prices.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino took to X to celebrate the milestone, stating that critics had spent years insisting a review of this scale could never be completed. The company's gold holdings were also verified during fieldwork, with auditors counting and inspecting each gold bar to confirm identifying details.
