Tether Engages Big Four Firm for First Full Independent Audit
Tether, the issuer of the widely-used stablecoin USDT, has made significant strides in increasing transparency by engaging a Big Four accounting firm to conduct its first full independent audit. The move marks a major shift in how Tether approaches financial disclosure and oversight.
The audit will cover Tether's full financial statements, going beyond the periodic attestations that have been standard practice across the stablecoin sector. This review is expected to examine Tether's reserves, liabilities, and internal controls at a level of scrutiny typically associated with large global financial institutions.
Tether has faced questions over the composition and backing of its reserves, despite publishing regular attestations. Critics argue that these fall short of comprehensive verification provided by a full audit.
The company's Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino stated that the move reflects efforts to align Tether with higher standards of financial scrutiny. The Big Four firm was selected following a competitive process.
