Tether Expands USAT to Celo, Boosting US-Compliant Stablecoin
Tether's US-compliant stablecoin, USAT, has expanded to Celo, marking its second blockchain after Ethereum. This move supports Tether's separate infrastructure strategy for American and global markets.
USAT remains significantly smaller than its global counterpart, USDT, with a market value of approximately $185 million compared to USDT's roughly $180 billion. However, Tether designed USAT specifically for the changing US regulatory framework.
Celo, which focuses on stablecoin payments, now serves as a direct distribution channel for USAT. This deployment also extends the token beyond its original Ethereum base.
