Tether Flips Ethereum in Market Value Before Brief Reversal

Tether's stablecoin USDT briefly surpassed Ethereum in market value for the first time in nearly eight years, only to see Ethereum reclaim its second spot.

The shift marked a significant moment in the crypto market, with analysts pointing to a growing trend of investors favoring stability and utility over risk assets. According to data, Tether's market cap climbed to around $187.05 billion, while Ethereum's slipped to about $186.263 billion, creating a narrow gap of less than $1 billion.

This brief flip was short-lived, as Ethereum quickly recovered its second place ranking with a market cap back near $188 billion. The reversal drew attention from traders and analysts, who have favored defensive positions during weeks of volatility.

Analysts like Mike McGlone, a senior strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, argue that capital is gravitating toward stability and utility, making stablecoins attractive as a store of value and settlement asset when conviction fades. Peter Schiff predicted that Tether's market cap would soon top Ethereum and eventually Bitcoin (BTC).
