Tether Flips Ethereum, Then Loses Ground in Market Value Showdown

Tether's USDT briefly surpassed Ethereum in market value for the first time in nearly eight years, but its reign was short-lived.

Data showed that Tether's market cap climbed to around $187.05 billion while Ethereum's slipped to about $186.263 billion, with the gap between the two assets falling below $1 billion.

The brief flip proved to be a temporary phenomenon as Ethereum quickly recovered the second spot, with its market cap back near $188 billion.

This reversal drew attention across the market, where traders have favored defensive positions during weeks of volatility.

Analysts like Mike McGlone, a senior strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, argue that capital is gravitating towards stability and utility, and stablecoins remain attractive as a store of value and settlement asset when conviction fades.
