Tether Freezes Half a Billion in USDT Amid Compliance Push
Tether has frozen over $514 million in USDT across two major blockchains - Tron and Ethereum - over the past 30 days, according to onchain data from BlockSec's USDT Freeze Tracker.
The majority of these funds, roughly $505.9 million, were frozen on the Tron network, which has become a hub for high-volume USDT transfers, especially in emerging markets where low fees drive adoption.
This move is part of Tether's compliance push, which analysts say puts it on track to surpass last year's totals well before December. BlockSec's 2025 review found that the issuer blacklisted over 4,163 unique addresses across both chains, freezing $1.26 billion in USDT.
The recent freeze is tied to several high-profile cases, including the DSJ Exchange and BG Wealth Sharing collapse, an alleged Ponzi scheme that took more than $150 million from users.
