Tether Freezes Half Billion in USDT Amid Compliance Push
Tether has frozen over $514 million in USDT across two major blockchains over the past 30 days, according to onchain data from BlockSec's USDT Freeze Tracker. This figure comes after a year of intense scrutiny for Tether's compliance efforts.
The majority of these funds were tied to the Tron network, with $505.9 million frozen, while Ethereum held just $8.73 million. Analysts say this pace puts Tether on track to surpass last year's totals well before December.
This move is part of Tether's ongoing compliance push, which has already produced several headline-grabbing actions this year. In February, the company confirmed it had frozen about $4.2 billion in tokens over three years tied to illicit activity, with $3.5 billion locked since 2023.
