Tether Freezes Half Billion in USDT Tokens as Compliance Push Gains Momentum
Tether has taken swift action to freeze nearly half a billion dollars in USDT tokens over the past month, with Tron dominating the list of blacklisted addresses.
According to BlockSec's USDT Freeze Tracker, Tether froze $514 million across two major blockchains during the 30-day period. The majority of these funds, approximately $505.9 million, are tied to Tron, while Ethereum held around $8.73 million.
This latest move is part of a broader trend in Tether's compliance efforts. Analysts suggest that the pace of action puts Tether on track to surpass last year's totals well before December. A 2025 review by BlockSec found that Tether blacklisted 4,163 unique addresses across both chains, freezing $1.26 billion in USDT.
A significant portion of the recent activity is linked to the DSJ Exchange and BG Wealth Sharing collapse, an alleged Ponzi scheme that took over $150 million from users. This year alone has seen several high-profile actions by Tether, including a February operation that froze around $4.2 billion in tokens tied to illicit activity.
