Tether Gold Earns Shariah Compliance, Boosting Digital Gold Adoption
Tether Gold (XAU₮), a gold-backed digital asset issued by Tether, has received Shariah compliance certification from Amanah Advisors. This marks a significant development in the intersection of blockchain technology, Islamic finance, and tokenized real-world assets.
The certification confirms that XAU₮ meets key Shariah requirements, including real ownership of physical gold, transparent asset backing, and the absence of interest-based mechanisms, leverage, and speculative derivatives. This allows Muslim investors and institutions to access digital ownership of physical gold through a compliant framework.
XAU₮ represents one entire troy ounce of gold, linked to a London Good Delivery bar stored in Switzerland by serial number, purity, and weight. The certification is led by Mufti Faraz Adam of Amanah Advisors and strengthens Tether's presence in the UAE's cryptocurrency scene.
The tokenized real-world assets market has gained global momentum, with above $31 billion valuation globally. XAU₮ can provide a backbone for services such as halal saving schemes, wealth preservation services, collateralization services, and trade finance services.
