Tether Launches USAT: A Compliant Stablecoin for the U.S. Market
Tether, the company behind the world's largest stablecoin USDT, is facing a regulatory challenge in the United States. Despite its $180 billion market value, USDT does not comply with the new regulatory frameworks in the U.S.
Rather than changing its flagship token to meet these standards, Tether has developed a second stablecoin called USAT that is exclusively designed for the U.S. market and issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, a federally chartered bank.
USAT has recently expanded onto the Celo network, which processes 28% of all cross-chain transactions of the USDT token. This integration leverages an existing ecosystem around stablecoin payments and allows users to directly use USAT for transaction fee payments on the Celo network.
