Tether Partners with Nairobi Exchange on Tokenization

Tether has announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) to explore digital asset education, tokenization, and market infrastructure. The deal is part of Tether's broader strategy to move from being a crypto trading utility to a capital-markets technology provider.

The NSE's market capitalization has reached a record Sh3.76 trillion as of June 30, with liquidity still limited in the Kenyan market. Tokenization could make it easier for smaller investors and Kenyans abroad to buy exposure to listed securities without moving through old market gates.

However, regulators have yet to approve any pilot projects or tokenized public equities on the NSE. Tether's dominance as a dollar stablecoin is also a concern, with its USDT having been pushed outside regulated venues in Europe under MiCA regulations.
