Tether Partners with Nairobi Securities Exchange on Blockchain-Powered Capital Markets
The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has taken a significant step towards modernizing its capital markets by partnering with Tether to explore blockchain-powered infrastructure. On July 28, 2026, the two parties signed an MoU that sets out their intentions for tokenization, instant settlement, and digital asset education.
The agreement will enable the NSE to develop a blockchain-based market infrastructure using Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to tokenize securities and facilitate instant settlement. This aims to reduce the current three-level settlement cycle and eliminate much of the friction embedded in conventional post-trade processes.
Tether's Hadron platform will play a central role in this effort, enabling fractionalized access to securities for local and diaspora investors. The partnership also plans to design Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) onboarding flows tailored to Kenya's regulatory environment.
The MoU covers several interconnected areas, including investor education, blockchain-based market infrastructure, Real World Asset tokenization, compliance, and technological innovations. The partnership has the potential to bridge traditional African finance with blockchain-native infrastructure, making it a significant attempt to advance capital markets in Africa.
