Tether Partners with Nairobi Securities Exchange to Explore Digital Asset Education and Tokenization
Tether, a leading stablecoin issuer, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) in Kenya. This partnership aims to explore digital asset education, tokenization of securities, blockchain technology, and innovation in financial markets.
The NSE is one of Africa's oldest stock exchanges, established in 1954, and provides a platform for trading stocks, bonds, and derivatives. According to the announcement, the market capitalization of the NSE stands at approximately $2.64 billion USD (¥43 trillion JPY).
Under this MoU, Tether and NSE will collaborate on investor education programs, including workshops and training sessions, targeting brokers and individual investors registered with the exchange. Their goal is to provide systematic knowledge about digital assets and enhance understanding of capital markets among Kenyan investors.
The partnership also aims to develop and implement market infrastructure that enables tokenization and instant settlement using distributed ledger technology (DLT) on the NSE platform. Furthermore, they plan to evaluate the use of Tether's Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization platform, Hadron by Tether, to offer small investment opportunities in securities to Kenyan investors, both domestically and internationally.
In addition, they will design and test a safe customer onboarding flow tailored to Kenya's regulatory environment, aiming to enhance Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know-Your-Customer (KYC) procedures.
