Tether Prints Another Billion USDT as Stablecoin Supply Approaches 189 Billion
Tether's latest move has seen the stablecoin issuer mint another billion USDT on August 10, sending it straight to its treasury wallet. This transaction, logged on-chain and flagged by Whale Alert, is a familiar pattern for Tether, which has been regularly topping off its treasury throughout 2025 and 2026.
The total supply of USDT now approaches 189 billion tokens, with circulating supply sitting at approximately 183 billion. The difference between these two figures represents inventory, or tokens minted but not yet distributed to end users. The latest batch adds to this buffer.
Tether's frequent issuances in $1 billion increments suggest sustained institutional demand for dollar-denominated stablecoin liquidity. Q2 2026 attestation data shows that Tether issued approximately $184.6 billion in USDT and generated a net operating profit of $1.5 billion, primarily through the yield on its reserve assets, including US Treasury bills.
Recent attestations have highlighted over $4 billion in excess reserves, meaning Tether holds more in assets than it has USDT in circulation. Traders and investors will want to track how quickly this latest billion moves from the treasury into active circulation, as a fast drawdown would suggest strong immediate demand, while a slow one would indicate Tether is simply padding its buffer for a rainy day.
