Tether Secures Historic Clean Audit from KPMG
Tether, the issuer of the widely used USDT stablecoin, has announced that it has completed its first-ever full independent financial statement audit. The audit was conducted by KPMG U.S., one of the largest and most respected accounting firms in the world.
The audit for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, resulted in an unqualified clean opinion, which is essentially a 'clean' audit in accounting terms. This means that Tether's financial statements are presented fairly and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
According to KPMG, Tether's reserve assets exceeded its liabilities by $6.814 billion at the end of 2025. The audit also verified $141 billion in US Treasury reserves, making Tether one of the largest holders of American government debt worldwide.
The physical inspection and counting of every gold bar held by Tether confirms their existence and authenticity. This move is seen as a significant step towards increasing trust and transparency in the stablecoin issuer's operations.
