Tether Teams Up with Nairobi Exchange to Bring Blockchain to Africa
Tether has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), one of Africa's largest stock exchanges, to explore blockchain-based capital market infrastructure and digital asset education in Kenya.
The partnership reflects a broader effort to modernize the NSE while expanding access to digital financial services for local and international investors.
Tether and NSE will work together to evaluate the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT) for securities trading, investor education, and market infrastructure. They plan to assess how Tether's Hadron tokenization platform can enable the issuance and trading of tokenized securities and other real-world assets on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
The collaboration also includes exploring instant settlement mechanisms that could replace the exchange's current multi-stage settlement process, as well as using USDT as part of a digital settlement infrastructure where permitted under applicable regulations.
