Tether's $141 Billion Treasury Holdings Spark Major Shift in Global Finance

The U.S. Treasury securities now held by Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, amount to $141 billion.

This makes Tether the 17th-largest holder of U.S. debt on the planet, surpassing countries like Germany and South Korea.

The growth of stablecoins is part of a larger trend that began during the Cold War period from 1947 to 1991, when banks outside the United States started creating dollar-denominated credit entirely offshore through the 'Eurodollar system.'

This has led to a situation where trillions of dollars in international trade and lending are facilitated through this system.
