Tether's $1.5B Q2 Profit Rides U.S. Treasury Income and Stablecoin Circulation

Share

Tether's Q2 profit reached $1.5 billion as interest income from U.S. Treasury securities and repurchase agreements continued to support earnings.

The stablecoin issuer generated substantial income due to elevated short-term interest rates, which allowed Tether to earn more from its liquid assets held behind the USDt stablecoin.

Tether's earnings model differs from that of cryptocurrency exchanges, relying on returns from U.S. Treasury securities and repurchase agreements rather than trading activity and transaction fees.

Despite weaker conditions across digital asset markets, Tether's quarterly result was driven mainly by its interest-bearing instruments.
