Tether's 'Stable Cow' Reveals 70% Stake in Renewable Energy-Focused Agribusiness
Tether's CEO Paolo Ardoino recently posted a cow GIF on Twitter, captioning it 'Here's a Stable Cow' in reference to the company's majority stake in agribusiness Adecoagro (AGRO). The stablecoin issuer has a 70% stake in the firm, which operates over 14,500 milking cows and produces sugarcane, rice, and dairy.
Ardoino broke down the trade in a second post, explaining that investors bought AGRO shares by investing in 'agriculture + energy + real assets.'
The move is part of Tether's effort to diversify its reserves, which have seen a 40% reduction in excess reserve cushion since 2025. Adecoagro's renewable generation capacity, including sugarcane bagasse and biogas, can supply power to Bitcoin mining rigs, potentially reducing costs.
Tether has open-sourced its mining software, giving it direct control over uptime, rig fleets, and power costs. The company will aim to beat grid contracts on cost in the next earnings report, while investors watch how quickly Tether folds these farms into wider real-world asset plans.
