Tether's USDT Surpasses Ethereum in Market Value, Then Slips Back
Tether's USDT has briefly surpassed Ethereum in market value for the first time in nearly eight years, before slipping back to second place.
According to data, Tether's market cap climbed to $187.05 billion while Ethereum's slipped to around $186.263 billion, with the gap between the two assets falling below $1 billion.
The shift is attributed to investors pulling capital from risk assets and leaning on stablecoins for liquidity, feeding talk of a 2026 'stablecoin season', as analysts say capital is gravitating towards stability and utility.
Mike McGlone, a senior strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, has argued that stablecoins remain attractive as a store of value and settlement asset when conviction fades.
