Texas Tops List of States Hit by Cryptocurrency Kiosk Scams

Share

Texas has seen the highest reported losses from cryptocurrency kiosk scams in the US, with over $56.8 million lost in 2025 alone. The state's losses accounted for nearly a quarter of the total losses nationwide, which rose to nearly $389 million in 2025.

Cryptocurrency kiosks are electronic devices that allow individuals to exchange cash and cryptocurrency. However, they have been increasingly used in scams where victims are persuaded to withdraw money from their bank accounts and deposit it into a kiosk.

The Texas House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans' Affairs met to discuss the issue and heard testimony from experts who warned about the efficiency and sophistication of cryptocurrency-related financial crimes. State Representative AJ Louderback described these scams as 'a more efficient, cleaner way to steal money.'
