Tezos Deploys Post-Quantum Preview Network in Quantum Computing Era
Tezos has launched a preview network for its post-quantum blockchain protocol, marking a significant step towards securing its ecosystem against quantum computing threats. The move comes as Google's recent research highlights the growing urgency of transitioning to post-quantum cryptography due to declining resources required to break elliptic-curve cryptography.
The Tezos previewnet builds on foundational work laid by previous upgrades, including the June 2026 Ushuaia protocol amendment, which introduced testnet-only support for post-quantum cryptography. The new network features a STARK-based solution from LeanEthereum and uses ZODA, a novel post-quantum secure data protocol with near-zero communication overhead.
While the previewnet is experimental, its launch signals Tezos' proactive approach to blockchain security in the face of advancing quantum technology. The move could attract renewed interest from developers and investors as it aligns with broader efforts to expand Tezos' utility, such as the recent introduction of TzEL for private, post-quantum payments.
