Thailand Cracks Down on Crypto Transfers with Stricter Verification Rules

Share

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced plans to enforce the 'Travel Rule for Digital Assets' in February 2027. This new regulation will require crypto operators to verify the receiving parties of every transfer before processing it.

The rule, also known as the Travel Rule, requires exchanges and other Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) to attach sender and receiver information to each transaction. This makes crypto transfers look more like traditional bank wires in terms of compliance.

Crypto operators must also keep records of every transaction for five years, allowing regulators to access them quickly when needed. Every transfer will require collecting sender and receiver details, including names and account numbers.
