Thailand Cracks Down on Self-Custody Wallets in New Crypto Transfer Rules

Share

Thailand is set to introduce new regulations for digital asset transfers, requiring licensed platforms to verify users' control of self-custodial wallets. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has finalized its Travel Rule for Digital Assets, which will take effect on February 27, 2027.

The rule sets four main requirements: collecting customer information, verifying counterparties, checking self-hosted wallets, and maintaining recordkeeping for at least five years.

Regulated platforms must establish policies to manage risks related to digital asset transfers. They will need systems to collect and transmit transaction information, check counterparties, and verify control of self-hosted wallets.
