Thailand Enforces Stricter Crypto Transfer Rules Starting February 27, 2027

Share

Thailand is set to enforce stricter rules on cryptocurrency transfers starting February 27, 2027. The new regulations, known as the 'Travel Rule for Digital Assets', require exchanges and other Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) to verify the receiving party before processing a transfer.

The Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will also be keeping records of all transactions for five years to aid in regulatory oversight. This includes collecting sender and receiver information, including names and account numbers.

Self-custody transfers, where users withdraw their cryptocurrencies from an exchange to a private wallet, will require proof of wallet ownership under the new rules. However, exchanges may use different verification methods, which could lead to delays in withdrawals.
