Thailand Proposes Retail Access to Overseas Crypto Derivatives
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed new rules to allow retail investors to access qualifying digital asset derivatives traded overseas. The proposal, which was announced on August 31, would permit licensed intermediaries to facilitate investments in these contracts, subject to certain conditions.
The eligible contracts must match Thai product features and use regulated central counterparty clearing arrangements overseas. Non-qualifying overseas crypto derivatives would remain available only to institutional investors under the proposed framework.
The consultation period for public comments is open until September 30, but the implementation timing has not been announced yet. The SEC did not publish a list of eligible cryptocurrencies or exchanges in its announcement.
